The image (s) of the day here is one of a pair of pike otoliths, or ear bones, basically, we dug out of one of the hogs we got into the boat. Surprisingly these were small in scale in regard to the size of the fish, compared to other species we have seen, like trout or halibut. With the size of the fish, we expected them to be monstrous - but relatively speaking, a moderately large trout or a pretty small halibut (a "chicken" in Alaska speak) would have a pair of these about the same size. These are sitting on the handle of a Rapala fillet knife for easier visibility, but that doesn't do much for size reference without knowing the size of the knife....
