RSM Fall camp 2013

The time has come again for the fall camps at Russian Mission School.  This year I would be once again at Kako, and there were 7 students that chose this camp as their destination this year - way down from last years 21.  We did things by grade this go round, and so populations were evened out more.  Also, it turned out that it would be an all-girls-camp as well, including the two chaperones volunteering to help.  Sarah and Warren even came along and joined the fun.

On the 'Hummel' Kako camp docket as usual was canoeing, archery, beaver trapping, a moose hunt, and chicken (Spruce grouse) hunting mania.  Throw in bonfires every night and a good time is always had by all.

First, the tough women of Kako camp, 2013!!!

The target practice took a new turn this year with the "Soda Can Challenge" Congrats to the winner!

Each day we would head out in the evening and make a castor mound set by one of the lodges on the lake.  Here they are putting the finishing touches on their first set:

"Castor is stinky!!!" was often heard     :D

And the next morning:

The remake was later in the day with a different crew, and on their check, morning #2:

The beavers were promptly skinned and hung to cool - before they became dinner :)
Watching her use the Uluk made me want to buy one and give it a try - sure looks like it beats fleshing!!

Lots of fun to be had near the campfires at night!

Ada found a new friend and would lay down next to her whenever she got near the fire :)

As always, there were lots of "Chicken walk" hunts, but this year seems kind of late, and there were less birds.

And it sure was cool to have Warren there to share in it all!!
